Textbooks |
Lecture notes; Videos; Scientific articles from the literature; |
Objectives |
The course aims to allow students to understand the general principles of the main skin diseases, thus including infectious, immune-inflammatory, and neoplastic disorders (as listed in the program). Special attention is paid to the current dermatological treatments of the mentioned diseases. The role of the cutaneous microbiome in different dermatosis (i.e. atopy, psoriasis, cutaneous infections) is discussed. Moreover, the basis of UV-light, cutaneous actinic damage and photoprotection are presented. The study design and pharmacotherapy in skin diseases is also a part of the program. |
Pre-requisites |
Basic knowledge of pharmacology Basic principles of immunology |
Teaching methods |
Traditional lectures, discussion of case studies, recorded lectures, interactive meetings and seminars |
Expected Results |
At the end of the course, the student is expected to thoroughly know the general principles of the main skin disorders, with special regard to their pathogenesis and current treatments. It is also expected the student to be able to understand and criticize articles from the dermatology literature. On these bases, the course aims to provide the student with the suitable scientific background in order to propose other possible pathway/drugs able to treat some skin diseases. |
Exam modality |
The exam mark will be a multiple-choice exam with 33 questions. There will be no negative marking. |
