PROGRAM

STRUCTURE

EMOTION is a unique program that promotes the education of the future generation of translational scientists and professionals in skin health & care and to equip them with the knowledge and skills to work in R&D and contribute to the conception and development of novel cosmetics, dermatological drugs and/or devices.

EMOTION represents an added value compared to the status quo as it provides students with an in-depth and all-round knowledge of skin physiopathology, together with the ability to find an ingredient (by synthesis or isolation from natural sources), formulate it and test it in biological, toxicological, analytical, non-clinical and clinical terms.

SEMESTERS

Two semesters in Italy (UPO) and one semester in Spain (UMH) or Belgium (UNamur),
according to whether the intellectual inclination of the student is towards non-clinical or clinical research, respectively.

Background information is provided by academic professors, but testimonials from the productive world are heavily relied upon to provide up-to-date and valuable information to transit to the industrial environment and to make an impact in the R&D arena.

All semesters also include practical and tutored work.

WORKSHOPS

Three thematic workshops focused on transferrable skills or contents related to hot trends in the field.

The workshops are mainly conducted by professionals transmitting hands-on experience on specific topics and are the occasion to create a network with the productive sector and to gather different cohorts of students together.

ELECTIVE PROJECT

A six-month final elective project (internship) either in academia or industry.

The work carried out is the subject of the thesis that the student writes and discusses for his/her final degree. Indeed, once the internship is concluded, in September students discuss their work at UPO (Novara), during the induction week.

This allows graduating students to meet and welcome the freshmen, working towards a community spirit.

MOBILITY

Students have the opportunity to live in at least two countries, interact with other cohorts and travel as highlighted in the following mobility scheme:

        OPTION A: Non-clinical development

OPTION B: Clinical development

The students can choose their own mobility track. However, the compulsory physical mobility rule set by EACEA must be followed by students with Erasmus+ scholarships and non-fee paying self-funded students:

  • The student must spend 2 study periods in 2 countries, each minimum 30 ECTS.
Both these countries must be different from the country of residence at enrolment stage.

This means that, for instance, Italian students cannot do the internship in Italy in the fourth semester nor in the same Country as the one chosen for the third semester; Spanish students who choose to go to Spain for their third semester cannot do the internship in Spain; Belgian students who choose to go to Belgium for their third semester cannot do the internship in Belgium.
