ROMAN – I intake student
After completing the EMOTION Master’s program, I was fortunate to receive a Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant for an international research project in Skin Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine (SkinTERM). This opportunity allowed me to stay in academia to pursue a PhD. For the past three years, I’ve been immersed in this incredible journey, transitioning from synthetic organic chemistry into the fascinating world of experimental biology. This experience has greatly broadened my expertise – I’ve learned how to isolate and culture various human cells, understand the production and testing of commercial skin substitutes, and conduct complex skin research using animal models, including rats. My project also involves extensive collaboration with different countries and institutions, which closely mirrors the international nature of the EMJMD program.
Beyond my primary research, I volunteer as a Clinical Support Coordinator at Radboudumc, assisting severely wounded Ukrainian soldiers. Watching their progress, from being unable to stand to walking independently, brings me immense happiness and pride.
Life offers countless opportunities to make a difference – you just need to be open to them. My journey has taught me the importance of embracing new challenges, and I am grateful for everyone and everything that continues to shape both my professional and personal growth.

Entering the EMOTION program was like stepping into a whole new world—a world that would not only shape my career but also profoundly change how I saw myself and others around me. Erasmus, at first just a distant possibility, soon became the catalyst for some of the most transformative experiences of my life.
The application process was a rollercoaster of emotions. I’ll never forget the mix of joy and disbelief when I found out I was accepted. Back then, I had no idea just how much this opportunity would mean to me. Meeting my fellow Erasmus students for the first time was like meeting long-lost friends. Despite our different backgrounds, there was an instant connection.
From sharing stories over traditional Ecuadorian meals to dancing to Serbian music, I felt like I belonged. Traveling through Europe with my newfound friends was an adventure unlike any other. Every new city brought new discoveries and deeper connections. Whether we were exploring the historic streets of Italy or getting swept up in the energy of Spanish festivals, each moment was a reminder of the beauty of diversity and the power of shared experiences.
But it wasn’t just about the sights and sounds; EMOTION opened doors to a world of academic discovery. Learning from experts in skin science not only expanded my knowledge but also ignited a passion for research that I never knew I had. After graduation, I dove headfirst into the world of academia and research. Thanks to EMOTION, I had the opportunity to work on ground-breaking projects at the University of Montreal, delving into the fascinating world of polymeric nanoparticles. And I was incredibly fortunate to receive grants from institutions like FRQNT and the Quebec India Scholarship, which helped turn my research dreams into reality.
But it wasn’t just about the research; it was the people who inspired me along the way. Dr. Tracey and Dr. Asia were more than just mentors—they were champions who encouraged me to push my limits and think differently. And the lessons I learned still guide me today, reminding me to always strive for excellence.
As I embark on my PhD journey, I carry with me the lessons and memories of EMOTION. It’s more than just a program; it’s a journey of self-discovery, growth, and endless possibilities. From fueling my passion for drug delivery to fostering a love for exploration, EMOTION has shaped not just my career but my identity. And for that, I will always be grateful.

When I was checking out the catalogue of Erasmus+ programs in 2019, I found EMOTION to be the perfect fit to attain my professional goals. While I was crafting my motivation letter, I already painted a clear picture of what will happen during the next two years: after spending my first year of studies in Italy, I will proceed to pursue the pre-clinical track in Spain, and do my internship in a German pharmaceutical company. However, “the only constant thing is change”, and so these projections were totally altered: I decided to step out of my comfort zone and do my third semester in Belgium to take up clinical studies, and though I received an offer from Bayer for my internship semester, I decided to pursue my internship in medical communication in a cosmetics company in France. Fast forward to today, I am currently international project manager in medical relations and scientific communication for VICHY Laboratoires, one of the global brands of the L’Oréal group.
Looking back, the series of changes that I encountered during my journey in EMOTION were moments of redirection that led me to where I am today. Perspectives were widened, character was developed, and as a result, opportunities were augmented. The nature of EMOTION’s program has greatly helped me land into the industry I am currently in, the courses that were taught equipped me for my professional missions, and the international set-up has empowered me to collaborate in a multinational corporation. Being part of EMOTION was a gift for me in so many aspects, and I hope that you, dear reader, could also partake of this gift!

I have always enjoyed makeup and skincare, this interest that started with watching YouTube videos, practicing different makeup looks, and buying and testing various products slowly but surely became more than an interest. One day, I realized I wanted to make it my future. I researched and found what I thought would be a great entryway into this industry, the EMOTION Master. When I got my acceptance email and the scholarship that would make it possible for me to join the third intake I cried at my desk. The journey that followed was not all sunshine and rainbows as expectations and reality are more often than not very different, but I can happily say that I am now exactly where I wanted to be when I sent my application. I wanted to work for a vegan company that cared about sustainability, and ideally, for a K-Beauty company. Guess what? I am doing just that. I applied for Yepoda when one of my colleagues from EMOTION (who now also works at Yepoda! He is one of now 4 EMOTION alumni who work here now) sent me a job offer he found on LinkedIn. I applied, hoping that I would be able to join for my internship next year and, to my surprise I got a call the next month. 2 months later and I was starting a new and exciting position as Product Development Trainee. It has now been almost 3 years since I joined and I have learned, worked, traveled, and seen my ideas become real products. I am very grateful for the opportunities I have been given and for the people who have helped me and trusted me up to this point. If I had one advice to give it would be to always keep your eyes open and to try new things. Life is so much more than what happens inside a classroom so learn all you can and try to experience all you can.

MARTINA – III intake student
Hello everyone! My name is Martina and I was an EMOTION Master student. Time passes by so quickly, and it feels like yesterday I was discussing my thesis and graduating! But let’s start from the real beginning…
I am Italian and I graduated in Pharmacy in 2019 with a research thesis led at Cardiff University. It feels like a physiological event to graduate in this faculty and just start working in a pharmacy, and so I did. Even though I really loved my job, I felt I needed to specialize in some specific areas (and since years I was fascinated by the dermocosmetic world). Most of all, I wanted to make more experiences worldwide.
When I saw EMOTION Erasmus Mundus Master website, I couldn’t believe it: I thought it was the sign I was looking for. When I was accepted, I was extremely happy!
After the 1st years exams’, I wanted to go deeper in the “cosmetic side” and I decided to proceed my studies in Spain. Now at my actual job I am working much also with clinical studies, so I feel I would also have loved to discover the Belgian opportunity. Coming to the internship, I was accepted in a big pharmaceutical company close to Toulouse as Medical Advisor Global for the dermocosmetic division. I was in charge of developing the scientific communication behind the launch of new products, be the scientific support in case of questions, manage the relationships with Key Opinion Leaders worldwide in the field of Dermatology, work with patients and clinical studies and much more. I intensely loved this experience in France (and I am still in touch with my mentors!) but I was feeling I wanted to come back to my roots and be home soon.
For this reason, I came back after the internship and I had the chance to find another job as Medical Advisor for another important Italian Pharmaceutical and Dermocosmetic company in Milan, where I am still actually working for 1 year for its main dermocosmetic brand. EMOTION Master was surely a springboard which allowed me to enter in this amazing world of dermatology and cosmetic and gave me the instruments to grow professionally but, most of all, personally.
